Hydrosol, Floral Water

Hydrosols are the water-based pure botanical extracts collected during the steam distillation of high quality plant product.  These fragrant flower waters create exquisite natural perfumes, aromatherapy sprays, facial mists, and are essential in cleaning and body care recipes.

On our farm, we specifically grow lavender for it's oil and hydrosol production.  

Essential oils and hydrosols share certain traits, but hydrosols boast a significantly higher water content.

This signifies they are more delicate than essential oils, allowing direct application to your skin without the necessity of diluting them with a carrier oil. They possess a more understated fragrance than their essential oil counterparts.

What are the benefits of hydrosols?

Amidst the current apprehensions surrounding deceptive marketing, one must exercise caution in the dissemination of information regarding a product. On our farm, we advocate for investigating essential oils and hydrosols to truly grasp their essence and potential. 

Presently, the scientific community lacks extensive research on the advantages of hydrosols.  However, via an extensive historical account of herbal knowledge, it is evident that specific botanicals have the potential to be transformed into hydrosols and offer multifaceted benefits.  Once more, we highly recommend that you conduct your own research.

For example, here are some plants and a few of their purported benefits:

Lavender: calming, relaxation

Rose: astringent, perfume

Lemon balm: stress relief

Curry: cooling the skin

Witch hazel: skin cleanser

Chamomile: skin cleanser

Certain hydrosols like lavender, chamomile, and the curry plant contain carboxylic acids. These acids may alleviate and reduce inflammation however, without the empirical evidence to support this, despite their centuries-long role in natural healing, we cannot confirm its effectiveness as claimed.

I feel like the FDA should invest time into natural products as legitimate sources of alternative healing and support.  But that's a whole different line of thinking.

Undoubtedly, further research is imperative to substantiate the efficacy of hydrosols.
